EURegionsWeek 2018

gi

Islands share similar needs, in terms of energy supplies, climate change impacts and accessibility. On the other hand, island status can be an opportunity to pursue innovative strategies on renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, the circular economy, protected areas, etc. Therefore, the issue of insularity needs to be addressed as part of the sustainable development theme.

With this in mind, the partnership called “Green Islands for sustainable cohesion policy”, composed of Sardinia, Balearic Islands, Corsica, and Crete, participates to the European Week of Regions and Cities 2018.
The events organised by the partnership are the following:
Green economy as development opportunity for EU islands - Networking Session
Tuesday, 9 October 2018, 13.00 – 14.30 h
Square Convention Centre, Room 110 (circle 1), Mont des Arts, 1000 Brussels.

Green economy as development opportunity for EU islands - Workshop
Wednesday, 10 October, 11.30 – 13.00 h
Sardinia Region Venue, Rond - Point Schuman 14, Conference Room 8th floor, 1000 Brussels

The workshop and the networking session aim to share experiences and good practices as well as to foster cooperation among EU islands and regions with the intention to promote sustainable growth for Mediterranean and EU islands.

The European Week of Region and Cities 2018 has proven to be an excellent opportunity to share good practices among the four island regions. Specifically, best practices in the fields of climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency, sustainable tourism, sustainable mobility and circular economy have been collected in the Handbook “Green economy as a development opportunity for EU islands” with the aim of strengthening cooperation and promoting the exchange of knowledge among EU island territories which face similar challenges.
